In my work with Feng Shui, I have observed that many children respond to the energy of a home long before adults become aware of it. Some children are naturally intuitive and highly sensitive, while others, particularly those with additional needs, may experience their surroundings with greater intensity.
A child’s bedroom, the colours used within the home, the placement of furniture, the flow of movement through a space, and even sharp or harsh angles can influence how safe, calm, and supported they feel.
Over the years, I have also witnessed children expressing their experiences through drawings, play, and repeated symbols. These expressions can sometimes reveal emotions, memories, or energetic sensitivities that have not yet found words.
Many spiritual traditions believe that young children remain closely connected to the unseen realms for the first years of life. They often display vivid intuition, imaginary friends, unusual perceptions, and a deep sensitivity to the emotions and energies around them. As we grow older, social conditioning, education, and life experience tend to focus our awareness on the physical world, and this natural sensitivity often becomes less apparent.
One young child repeatedly drew circular patterns after the passing of a loved one. To me, these drawings felt symbolic of connection, remembrance, and an ongoing relationship with someone she could no longer physically see. Whether viewed as imagination, intuition, grief, or spiritual awareness, the drawings appeared to express something deeply meaningful to her.
Whether viewed through the lens of Feng Shui, intuition, emotional awareness, or environmental sensitivity, children often act as mirrors for the energy around them. By listening carefully to what they are expressing, we gain valuable insight into how a home is supporting—or challenging—the wellbeing of its occupants.
Creating a nurturing environment is not simply about decoration. It is about creating a space where sensitive minds, bodies, and spirits can feel safe, balanced, and at ease.
